Inmate Search in Texas

Thirty-three states provide a free search for offenders within their jurisdiction as a website for use by the public. Each state maintains its own web site independently. Variations exist in the design of the site, the search criteria, and the information presented for viewing. State laws may determine some of this.

It is important to note that the website may not work properly with certain browsers. In fact, the web pages may partially load onto your computer screen, but integral parts may be missing. If you encounter this difficulty, you may want to consider using a computer at a public library to complete your searches. In some cases, you wonít be able to tell because the missing information is minimal. The Texas Offender search will not produce any results unless your browser is set to accept cookies and pop ups.

Some databases will contain information only on inmates who are currently incarcerated, paroled, or on probation within that state. Other sites also include information on inmates who are deceased, escaped, released, or no longer resident in the correctional system.

To acquire access to the database for inmates in the state of Texas, use the following link:

This directs you to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice web page for its offender search. Directly under the heading, drop down menus provide live links for information pertinent to the following categories: contact, organization, general information, employment, employee resources, and fugitive watch. The rest of the page is divided into five main sections labeled: Offender information, Requests by telephone, General information only, Parole problems & questions only, Problems & questions relating to offenders, and Canít find offender in TDCJ (Texas Department of Criminal Justice). Additionally, if you are calling for information on a parolee, you must call one of the following numbers and you must be able to provide the TDCJ or SID number for the inmate- Huntsville: 936-291-2106 or Austin: 512-406-5202.

In the third section, General information only, a live link is available to access the offender search page. Additionally, information is provided for accessing the information by e-mail. In the fifth section, Canít find offender in TDCJ, several websites are provided in the event that you would like to continue your search outside the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
