Inmate Search in Missouri

Several states provide a free search for offenders within their jurisdiction through a web site for use by the public. Each of those states maintains its own independent website. Variations exist in the design of the site, the search criteria, and the information presented for public viewing as determined by state laws.

Some databases will contain information only on inmates who are currently incarcerated, paroled, or on probation within that state. Other sites also include inmates who are deceased, escaped, released, or no longer resident in the correctional system. The type of inmate whose information is presented on the website is determined by the state in question.

Missouri is one of those states that do not provide an inmate or offender search online. However, it does provide a website with important links to various topics related to inmates or offenders.

To acquire access to the Missouri Department of Corrections website, use the following link: http://www.doc.missouri.gov/offender_search.htm. On the left hand side of the page, the following links are available for public use: Director, Deputy Director, Adult Institutions, Human Services, Probation & Parole, Rehabilitative Services, Victim Services, Publications/Statistics, Overview, Offender Search, Missouri Vocational Enterprises, Site Index, and Links.

Please not that the Offender Search link only provides information on how to send a request for offender information. The last link, which happens to be labeled “Links,” provides live links to every State Department of Corrections website. Additionally, this link provides links to four national or Federal sites, as well as one international site.

In order to request information on an offender, you are required to send your request as an email to the following email address: constituentservices@doc.mo.gov. Additionally, you must provide the following information: the offender’s full name which must be spelled correctly, the offender’s inmate number, the offender’s date of birth, and the offender’s social security number. Although the last three are preferred, they are optional if you do not have them available.

Additionally, you must express your request clearly as to the exact nature of the request as well as the purpose. You may not submit your request more than once. It is stated that the Department of Corrections for Missouri will not respond to requests for background checks or to promote pen pal relationships.

However, the Missouri Department of Corrections does provide an online search for sex offenders within their jurisdiction. You can access the sex offender registry by using the following link: http://www.mshp.dps.mo.gov/CJ38/search.jsp. The Missouri State Highway Patrol provides this service. Using this link takes you to a page where you must first verify some information prior to entering the actual sex offender search site. Your browser must allow cookies in order for the site to work properly once you enter it. You are expected to read and agree to the disclaimer for this site before using it. You can access the disclaimer by clicking on the link labeled “disclaimer” that is located near the bottom of the page.

Once you enter the information and select submit, a new page is generated with several search criteria boxes present on it. They include: last name, first name, address type, street name, city, county, and zip code. You must enter at least one search criteria.

Your results will be presented in a small grid like chart that includes five categories. They include: name, street, city and state, zip code, and county. Each sex offender’s name is a live link that will generate a new page of information on the sex offender. If the sex offender agreed to have his photograph taken, then a photograph will appear.

The following information is provided about the sex offender: physical description, street address, and the offense or offenses. Below this is an option to obtain more information. If you select to do so, a page is generated with additional links for the following: addresses, vehicles, offenses, scars, marks, and tattoos, alias information, photos, and release information. Each of these is a live link that will generate a new page that includes the information if it is available.
