Inmate Search in Hawaii

A majority of the states provide free searches for state offenders within their jurisdiction through a website designed for use by the public. Each state that participates in the program maintains its own website independently through their State Department of Corrections. Variations exist in the design of the site, the complexity and specificity of the search criteria, the information presented for public viewing, and the availability of other related information. State laws determine some of the parameters of the website, particularly the information that is presented. Hawaii does not provide online search features.

Some websites do not function properly when using specific browsers that are not set to allow pop ups. Although the web pages may partially load onto your computer screen, integral parts of the page may be missing. If you encounter this difficulty, consider using a public library’s computer to conduct your searches. In some cases, you won’t notice any difficulty because the missing information is minimal.

Several states participate in retrieval of state inmate information through the Vinelink service. Questions or comments for those sites should be directed to 877-421-8463. Some databases will contain information only on inmates who are currently incarcerated, paroled, or on probation within that state, while other sites also include information on inmates who are no longer resident in the correctional system or who are deceased, escaped, or released. Hawaii does not use the Vinelink service.

Although a number of states do not participate in the online searching of state offenders or inmates, they do provide information for accessing information on state inmates in other ways. The available information on inmates that can be used for public knowledge is subject to that state’s laws. Hawaii is one of those states.

A state inmate or offender is an individual who has been charged and convicted with violating the laws of that particular state. The individual is incarcerated in state facilities or supervised by the staff of those state facilities for the term indicated in their sentencing.

This directs you to the page for frequently asked questions for the U. S. Government’s Official website that pertains to Hawaii’s Department of Corrections. It will provide the method by which you can obtain information on current inmates in the state of Hawaii. Two options are available: contact by postal mail or by telephone. Telephone contact may still require a written request, depending on the extent of the information that you are requesting.

You should include the following information in your request:
• the full name of the inmate- first, middle, and last
• any aliases of the inmate
• the inmate’s date of birth- approximate date of birth is acceptable if provided as a range
• the DOC number (Department of Corrections #) if possible
• your full name
• your complete mailing address
• your day time phone number
• a brief statement outlining what information you want and what you intend to do with the information

If you do not have all of the requested information, you should include as much identifying information as possible. For example, many people have the same first and last name, so include a middle name or initial. If the inmate has any identifying tattoos or scars, they can be included as well to help narrow the search in order to provide the correct information on an inmate. If you know the particular crime for which the individual was convicted, include that information.

Send your written request to:
