Inmate Search in Florida

Searching for inmates online is easily accomplished now that various states provide a free search for offenders within their jurisdiction through websites for use by the public. Each state maintains its own independently designed website with frequent updates. Variations exist in the design of the site, the search criteria employed, and the information presented for viewing. State laws determine some of the information that is available for public viewing according to their state guidelines.

Certain browsers may not allow the website to work properly. In fact, the webpages may partially load onto your computer screen, but integral parts may be missing. If you encounter this difficulty, you may want to consider using a computer at a public library to complete your searches. In some cases, you won’t be able to tell because the missing information is minimal. If your browser is not set to allow for cookies, you will most likely encounter this problem.

Some databases will contain information only on inmates who are currently incarcerated, paroled, or on probation within that state. Other sites also include inmates who are deceased, escaped, released, or no longer resident in the correctional system. Florida provides information on all of the above and includes photographs.

To acquire access to the database for inmates in the state of Florida, use the following link: http://www.dc.state.fl.us/InmateInfo/InmateInfoMenu.asp.

This directs you to the Florida Department of Corrections offender search webpage. On the top of the page directly under the heading “Florida Department of Corrections,” the following live links will appear: highlights, reports, facilities, offender search, FAQs, search, and contact. These same links also appear on the lower most portion of the page.

Five search options are provided including:
• Search All Corrections Offender Databases
• Supervised Population Information Search
• Inmate Population Information Search
• Inmate Release Information Search
• Inmate Escape Information Search
• Absconder/Fugitive Information Search

Each of these options is presented as a live link along with a brief explanation and contact information. Search All Corrections Offender Databases provides a comprehensive search of all offenders who fall into any of the categories listed in each of the other searches. However, the results from this search will only provide information that is common to each of the areas of search.

If you elect to use this option for your search, several search criteria boxes are available including last name, first name, DC number, eye color, height range, age range, DC criminal history or offense category, race, sex, hair color, weight range, and identifiers. Drop down menu boxes are provided for the majority of these boxes. Additionally, the user has the option to elect to search aliases, show only offenders who have photos, or limit the number of matches to their search criteria. Two options exist: submit request or clear request.

Below the search criteria section, a link is provided to obtain information on frequently asked questions. At the very bottom of the page is a link to return to the initial search page of category descriptions. Search hints are provided for each of the search criteria.

Once you have entered your data and selected to search, your results will be generated.
Initially, the results lead to a new page that includes the search boxes with the information that you entered.

Above these boxes, four options exist for your selection. Each is presented as a live link and includes: Inmate Population Information Search, Inmate Release Information Search, Supervised Population Information Search, and Absconder/Fugitive Information Search. Each of these links results in the opening of a new window.

The results to your search are presented in a grid like chart that includes the following headings: click number for details, name, DC number, race, sex, scheduled termination date, current location, and birth date. The results for each of the four options are presented identically. Although both the inmate’s name and the number listed in front of his name are live links, they both result in the same identifying information being presented. If you have elected to have photos appear, then the inmate’s photo will appear to the left of his or her information.
